Got a library question? The library help page now features instant messaging (or, if you prefer, chat). If you see a green light, we’re online. Just type your question to the librarian into the small white box on the IM form and hit enter.
If the light is red, we’re not online, but don’t let that stop you. If we’re open, give us a call (558-2461), or use our e-mail form. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can! (Messaging is normally online during library open hours.)
A few questions might come up as you look at this service.
Q. Is the library’s instant messaging service available 24 hours a day?
A. No. Some libraries offer round-the-clock chat service through cooperative arrangements and services they subscribe to. Our instant messaging service is staffed only by SCC librarians, so it’s only available during library open hours.
Q. When you’re offline, it says “Leave a message.” What happens if I do that?
A. We’ll eventually see your message, but unless you give us a way to get in touch with you, you’ll never hear back from us. So, when we’re not online, it’s better to use e-mail instead.
Q. Why can’t I see this widget when I visit the Library Help page?
A. The widget requires Adobe Flash Player, so if you don’t have that installed (or if you’re using an iPhone or screen reader) it won’t work. The library also has accounts with several of the major instant messaging services (AOL, MSN, Yahoo!, Google, Meebo), using the buddy name saccitylib, so feel free to contact us using your IM client of choice!
