April 23 is World Book Night, “an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. Held in the U.S. as well as the U.K. and Ireland on April 23, 2012. It will see tens of thousands of people go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out free World Book Night paperbacks.” A dozen Book Givers have signed up to collect their parcels of books at the SCC Library. They will then disperse into the community to hand out free books to people they meet along the way.
Sign-up is closed for this year, but you can join the mailing list to learn about next year’s events.
BTW, April 23 also coincides with the anniversary of Cervantes’ death, Shakespeare’s birth and death, and UNESCO’s World Book Day. A remarkable day, I’d say.
